Chicago Urban League Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation

Chicago Urban League Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation provides entrepreneurs of color the opportunity to launch, grow and maintain businesses. Through business mentoring sessions as well as networking opportunities and access to financial services; Supplier diversity certificates can be obtained, as are bids on public or private contracts. Entrepreneurship webinars for free and startups mentors are offered.

The Urban League provides assistance to more than 6,300 business owners and job-seekers in Chatham. Donors can support the Urban League's expansion by making planned gifts. This will ensure that the organization's work will continue for future generations.

This program allows aspiring entrepreneurs to get advice from business professionals, CEOs and other professionals. Additionally, there will be workshops related to technology, capital access and procurement are also scheduled to take place all day long - and are absolutely free to anyone who wants to be an entrepreneur!

Each IMPACT participant is assigned one African American leader from their group, resulting in the opportunity for intergenerational sharing of information. Entrepreneurs that attend the nine monthly sessions are required to complete their homework in between sessions as part of the presentation of their growth plans following their IMPACT fellowship experience. IMPACT Fellows also have access to common workspaces at 1871 as well as other incubators in the course of their fellowship.

Sunshine Enterprises

Sunshine Enterprises aims to help businesses with the highest potential who have limited resources, to expand their businesses, and to improve their community. Sunshine is also in partnership with a wide range of financiers, such as Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives (CNI), Byline Bank, CIBC Bank as well as Wintrust Community Bank.

Rising Tide Capital's concept serves as inspiration for this nonprofit's operations; President Obama has praised them for changing lives and revitalizing neighborhoods by establishing the organization's Community Business Academy, with 94% of graduates go on to establish new companies and create jobs following their graduation from the program.

Sunshine Enterprises also provides support to local entrepreneurs via UChicago Local. This collaboration between the University and UChicago Medicine enables realigning procurement departments so as to use more local vendors who provide competitive bids and help grow small business in Chicago's economy and assisting with social initiatives within the university. UChicago Local also links local entrepreneurs who are served by Sunshine Enterprises with other programming such as Chicago Innovation Exchange or Institute for Justice Clinic focused on Entrepreneurship at Law School - further expanding possibilities.

Incubatoredu

INCubatoredu provides students with the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship by creating their own company. Every class is accompanied by a mentor or coach who will guide teams of students through the program and assist with tasks related to washable feet insoles, or social applications; Students have plenty of opportunities to test out ideas while employing lean management principles.

While student teams go through the course students learn to refine and strengthen their startup ideas by conducting research on ideas and customers as well as market research, prototyping building and pitching. This process fosters teamwork, communication, and problem solving abilities, and also teaches students how to quickly adapt to changes.

Each year, teams participate in the INCubatoredu National Pitch to compete to raise seed money for their startup companies. This event provides teams with invaluable networking opportunities with investors and expert advice from business professionals - an event known for its Shark Tank-style pitch competitions.

INCubatoredu provides students and teachers with the chance to create long-lasting bonds that transcend classroom walls, impacting colleges or careers as well as the communities that go beyond the walls of the classroom.
