GTA 5 Cheat Codes Explained by U4GM

Grab the latest GTA 5 cheats for story mode, from explosive bullets and God Mode to vehicle spawns, phone codes, PC commands, and PS/Xbox inputs-plus what won't work online.

Most GTA 5 cheat codes still work the way long-time players remember: in story mode, not GTA Online. You can mess with health, weapons, wanted stars, weather, gravity, cars, bikes, aircraft, and a few odd phone tricks, but there still isn't an official cash code. If you came here hoping for instant GTA 5 Money, the game simply doesn't offer that through cheats. Rockstar left money to missions, robberies, stocks, and normal progression. Cheats are more about causing chaos for an evening, testing ideas, or turning Los Santos into a playground when you don't care about clean progress.

How players actually enter cheats

On PlayStation and Xbox, button cheats are entered during normal gameplay. Don't pause. Don't crawl through the sequence. Use the D-pad for directions, because the analogue stick can make inputs messy. When the game accepts a code, you'll see a small confirmation on screen. PC players have it easier in some ways: open the console with the tilde key, type a word like PAINKILLER, TURTLE, HIGHEX, or SKYFALL, then hit Enter. The phone method also works on newer console versions and PC. Open the in-game phone, bring up the dial pad, enter the 1-999 number, and call it. Older PS3 and Xbox 360 lists mainly stick to controller inputs.

The codes people use first

Invincibility is the big one. PAINKILLER gives you a short window where bullets, crashes, and explosions stop being a problem, though it doesn't last forever. Max Health and Armor, known as TURTLE on PC, is the safer emergency button when a fight goes wrong. LAWYERUP drops your wanted level, while FUGITIVE raises it when you fancy a police chase. POWERUP refills each character's special ability, so Franklin can handle corners, Michael can slow down shootouts, and Trevor can go wild again. These cheats are handy, but they carry a catch: once you activate any cheat, achievements and trophies are disabled for that session. Turning the same cheat off won't fix that. Reloading a clean save will.

Weapons, movement, and messy fun

TOOLUP gives you a weapon set with ammo, including firearms, explosives, and melee options. HIGHEX turns bullets into impact explosions, which is brilliant for blowing up traffic and terrible for subtlety. INCENDIARY makes bullets set targets on fire, while HOTHANDS makes melee attacks explode, so it's best used when you're not holding a weapon. DEADEYE slows aim and can be repeated for stronger slow-motion levels. Movement cheats are just as useful. CATCHME boosts running speed, GOTGILLS helps in water, HOPTOIT gives you huge jumps, and FLOATER lowers gravity. SKYDIVE gives a parachute. SKYFALL drops you from the sky, which is funny once and risky every time. Weather, drunk mode, slippery cars, and slow motion round out the classic sandbox nonsense.

Vehicles, phone extras, and a few warnings

Vehicle spawns need space, so don't try calling a helicopter inside an alley and then blame the code. Open roads, runways, beaches, and empty lots work better. You can spawn the BMX, Sanchez, PCJ-600, Caddy, Rapid GT, Comet, limo, Trashmaster, Buzzard, stunt plane, and crop duster with the right command or phone number. Some newer listings include Duke O'Death, the Kraken submarine, and the Dodo seaplane, but those usually need unlock events first. Director Mode and Black Cellphone are also tied to newer phone-style entries, though Black Cellphone's exact effect is still debated. GTA Online is different: cheats don't work there, and cheat tools can get accounts punished. If you're comparing story mode shortcuts with services such as GTA 5 Money buy, remember that the official cheat system is strictly a single-player toy, not an Online economy tool.
